09.11.20 Message from the Chairman (Saesneg yn unig)
The fire break ends on Monday 09.11.2020 and we can play again. The course will be open to all members and guests who live in Wales and we can play in groups of up to four from any number of households. Social and competition rounds must be booked in advance and everyone should maintain social distance as before. The course has dried nicely and looks great thanks to the work of Chris and Gwyn.
The club house is partially open during this working week due to central heating renovations which will be finished by Friday. From Saturday 14.11.2020 bar service and limited catering will resume. Please submit contact details.
The Golf Shop will be open from Saturday 14.11.2020 and a better ball competition has been set up for that day. Please be aware of the new handicap system and please submit the relevant information so that everyone will have their own access to the Wales Golf portal. Forms are available for this. Every effort will be made to play the finals and some board competitions that have been missed.
Buggy hire will resume on Monday but as before we are not allowed to share. The buggy may carry both bags but only one passenger.
The Secretary, Treasurer and other officials have taken care of club business during the fire break and we are good to go. Enjoy golf again in a responsible way as we all did previously. Good luck. Nick. Chairman.
04.11.20 Neges gan y Cadeirydd (Saesneg yn unig)
World Handicap Latest:
As we do not have every e mail for the members we cannot operate an opt out approach. This means it is an opt in approach whereby they must fill in a form and we submit the information to Wales Golf. That form will be ready soon via Sue Hughes. As soon as the e mails that we do have are sent to Wales Golf those members can log in.
Wales Golf say :1. Your members WILL ONLY be able to login to the player portal if they have an e mail address added into the Wales Golf Clubhouse software which you now have access to. 2. Some of the e mails you hold may be wrong or may have changed.
We can play social golf from 09.11.2020 and competitions will start on 14.11.2020 all in fours and only by booking times.
Hope that is clear. Just to remind everyone of Covid restrictions with the main thing being that nothing has got better or worse since the last time that we were allowed to play. Be intelligent and be kind. Stay safe. Regards, Nick.
04.11.20 Bydd y cwrs golff yn ail agor fore Llun
Bydd y cwrs golff yn ail agor fore Llun Tachwedd 9ed. Gofynnir yn garedig i bawb logi ar 'Masterscoreboard' fel o'r blaen os ydych yn dymuno chwarae. Mae'n hanfodol fod pawb yn cadw at y rheolau a'r canllawiau sydd yn ymwneud a 'Covid 19'. Ni fydd yn bosibl i ddefnyddio cyfleusterau y clwb. Diolch.
22.10.20 Datganiad gan Cadeirydd Clwb St Deiniol (Saesneg yn unig)
Dear Members,
Following the above announcement from the First Minister and updates from Wales Golf I regret to inform you that all golf in Wales is prohibited from 6.00 pm on Friday 23.10.2020 until at least Monday 09.11.2020. This means that the clubhouse, course, sheds, bar and car parks are closed to all of us for that period. This is disappointing to say the least with the course still in excellent condition but we must all abide by these and any other restrictions imposed by the Welsh Government to help control the spread of the virus. I know that everyone will respect these restrictions for their own and each other's safety.
As Bangor was already in local lockdown before the national fire break was announced we should not assume that everything will be back to normal on 09.11.2020 particularly as there may well be further national restrictions imposed at the end of the lockdown. Club officials will keep everyone informed whilst continuing to take care of club business. The greenkeepers will maintain the course for us so that we are ready to go as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Nick, Chairman.
15.10.20 St. Deiniol golf club is now within the restricted zone (Saesneg yn unig)
As St. Deiniol golf club is now within the restricted zone as part of the local lockdown, several members will not have a facility to play any golf for the foreseeable future.
3 Golf Clubs have been busy putting in place a temporary reciprocal arrangement with St Deiniol Bangor Golf Club during this period of time to enable the clubs members to play golf for free on each others courses (not talking about massive numbers here), on the proviso of certain criteria being proven so as to avoid any misuse of the agreement?
A phone call can be made to book a tee time (as no facility to action online), and at that point in time the member can provide their club membership number, telephone number and name, which could be useful as part of the track and trace element. On arrival to play, the member could produce a membership card/bag tag or even show an affiliation card as proof of membership.
The three clubs taking part are Baron Hill; Caernarfon and Bull Bay.
Yr ydym yn ddiolchgar iawn i’r clybiau yma am eu cyd-weithrediad parod i ganiatau aelodau St Deiniol sydd yn methu chwarae golff ym Mangor i fynychu y 3 clwb, sef Baron Hill; Caernarfon a Porth Llechog yn rhad ac am ddim ond iddynt ddilyn y canllawiau uchod.
09.10.20 Fairway only (Saesneg yn unig)
Preferred lies, on the fairway only, are now in operation, effective immediately.
05.10.20 Information concerning Norman Brookes Teams (Saesneg yn unig)
Due to the corona virus lockdown in the Conwy area, travel between St. Deiniol and other Norman Brookes member teams is prohibited.
It has therefore been decided by the Norman Brookes committee and endorsed by the acting Captain and Vice Captain of St. Deiniol, that the fixtures will continue in the Conwy area, commencing as planned on 11th October, with St. Deiniol fixtures been played on a catch up basis as soon as possible after the lockdown is lifted.
Please look out for further information as it occurs on the website, St. Deiniol facebook page and club noticeboards.
Regards
Tony (acting V. Captain)

17.07.20 Flagstick Attending
Attending the flagstick is possible by a playing partner.
However the flagstick must only be touched using a club and by no other means.
Extract from the R & A COVID 19 guidance on the rules of golf
“Allow players to centre the flagstick in a safe manner which does not involve using the hand, even when wearing a glove or using a towel (for example, by using a club). The centring of the flagstick may be allowed while another player putts (this may be desirable in windy conditions when the flagstick is required to be left in the hole and is leaning towards the player making the stroke).”

There are now 3 spaces per tee time for players from 2 different households to book, so all players must now book themselves in. If they can't, they can contact me (Sue Hughes) via email and I will book for them.
Also, some members are booking buggies instead of tee times. The booking system is well titled 'Members Buggy Hire' so there should not be a problem.

15.05.20 Sudden passing of ALLAN HUGHES (Saesneg yn unig)
It is with great sadness that we heard of the sudden passing of ALLAN HUGHES one of our most popular members. Allan was a keen and able golfer and was a perfect playing partner, always courteous and encouraging. We will miss his pleasant greeting and ready smile and his enthusiasm for the game of golf. His name will live on in the clubhouse as he won quite a few board competitions but he will be remembered as a great golfing partner and friend.
Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Allan.

This “Covid 19” epidemic has affected every one of us, the clubhouse and course are now closed and may remain closed for a few months, the A G M has been postponed until we reopen.

Presidents day was successful and contributed £800 towards club funds. Captains day also raised £300, Captains charity event £400 plus £375 for the British Heart Foundation.
As my year as captain comes to an end I would like to thank the following:
Mari Llwyd- for taking care of the club finances.

Report from Chris:
Unfortunately it was not to be this evening as Wrexham came out on top and fully deserved, the quality of the golf was something else as they beat Chris Moore and Geraint Wyn Hughes 64, but that was no disgrace as Tom and Daniel from Wrexham were -4 gross after 13 holes.

07.02.19 Course Maintenance
This week we have been carrying out some much needed Airation on the greens by Solid Tining up to a depth of 4 inches, this was a perfect practice to carry out after we Verti-Drained the greens 8 weeks previously, the Verti-Drain gives us the depth to break up soil compaction deeper in the playing surfaces (depth 8-9 inches) to help promote good root development and free draining playing surfaces through the winter months, with the Solid Tining we are looking to just break through the thatch layer to help keep the top layer dry and assist with the Verti-Draining work carried out previously and to try and prevent any disease outbreak.
Unfortunately it does cause a little disturbance to the playing surfaces but this work is vital for the greens and that they can be played all year round.
Thanks for you Patience,
Chris Moore

01.02.19 "Rules School" St Deiniol Golf Club was chosen by Wales Golf to host the only "Rules School" in North Wales in January 2019. The Level 2 Rules Seminar was run in conjunction with the R&A, as a two-day intensive course (8.30am-6.00pm on both days). It combined a mixture of classroom learning (looking at the Rules in more detail, but particularly the more important playing Rules, e.g. Course Played as it is Found (Rule 8) and Relief Situations (Rules 15-19). There were also practical situations as applied on the golf course, and also an opportunity to Role Play as a refereee (and yes, it rained for the two hours we were on the Course!). This was followed by a two-hour examination (a combination of True/False, multiple choice questions and identifying rules (or breaches and penalties) in given scenarios. The two hours flew by! Approximately 30 Delegates attended from a number of courses in North Wales and two members of St Deiniol passed the Level 2 exam - the outgoing Lady Captain Sue Jones and her husband Barry. |

08.04.18 Lady Captain's Drive In The St Deiniol ladies enjoyed a sunny, warmish and dry day for Lady Captain's Drive-in on Sunday 8 April. This year was a Stableford team game, two best scores on all holes and all 3 to count on par 3's. There was much rust to wear off clubs (and bodies) after such a wet and dreary winter, so congratulations to all for making it round and to Mari, Janet and Lady Captain (Sue Jones) for scoring 83 points, followed by 80 and 72 point team scores. Maybe the chilli chocolate brownie cake and a warm cup of coffee afterwards eased some of the aches and pains! |
