A very warm welcome to the Ladies’ section at St Deiniol (Bangor) Golf Club who are keen to welcome new members.
We are a small, friendly and successful group and it doesn’t matter if you have played golf before or want to learn the game. The course is suitable for all and contrary to popular belief, there is no need to be a 3-legged goat to play at Bangor!
Options to get started
We usually play our competitions on Thursdays (morning or afternoon – your choice) though Saturdays are an option if it suits better. It’s also possible to play anytime when convenient to you.
What about ‘phoning for an informal chat with one of the members and make arrangements to play soon?
You will have a very warm welcome and loads of fun with us and we look forward to seeing you!

A not so happy day on Sunday 20th for our Ladies, who lost at home to Caernarfon in the NWLSCA matchplay series. Congratulations to Martina for bringing home a 4&2 win, despite having to give 6 shots and a marginal loss for Mari of 2&1 having given 8 shots to her opponent. Must have been a tough fight but we still march on!
09.04.18 Shield Match Result
On probably the warmest and day of the year so far, five St Deiniol Ladies played their first Shield Match game of the season against Porthmadog B at Port. Alas! we lost narrowly 3 matches to 2. Two outright wins from Sue Hughes and Chris Jones (Sue H having to give 12 shots on an away course! so well done both), two narrowly lost 1down and the other just lost 4 & 2. Never mind, St Deiniol Ladies are not disheartened and look forward to their next match at Clays on Monday 23rd April.
08.04.18 Lady Captain's Drive In
The St Deiniol ladies enjoyed a sunny, warmish and dry day for Lady Captain's Drive-in on Sunday 8 April. This year was a Stableford team game, two best scores on all holes and all 3 to count on par 3's. There was much rust to wear off clubs (and bodies) after such a wet and dreary winter, so congratulations to all for making it round and to Mari, Janet and Lady Captain (Sue Jones) for scoring 83 points, followed by 80 and 72 point team scores. Maybe the chilli chocolate brownie cake and a warm cup of coffee afterwards eased some of the aches and pains!

St Deiniol ladies had a stonking 5-0 win over Caernarfon two weeks ago, even though all five team members had to give at least 3 shots and in one case 8 shots to our opponents. A very satisfying day in beautiful conditions.
Success was short-lived however in our return (and final match of the season) yesterday 30.7.17. St Deiniol lost by 4and a half to a half, oh dear! Again, we all had to give between 2 and 9 shots in very high winds and superfast greens.
Congratulations and many thanks to all ladies who have played in the Shield Matches this season and to Janet Davies for selecting the Match teams. No chance of promotion unfortunately, but we're already looking forward to next year (which will be arranged in November).
20.06.17 Shield Match win for St Deiniol ladies
A fantastic Shield Match win for St Deiniol ladies, playing at home versus Mold on Friday 16 June – a 5-0 result with all matches in the bag well before the 18th! Well done Sue H, Martina, Ann, Sue J and Janet. We still have 4 matches to go (Porthmadog home and away and Caernarfon home and away), so we must keep up our form, with the dream of being promoted to the 3rd Division this year.

06.06.17 Success for 3 Bangor St Deiniol ladies
Success for 3 Bangor St Deiniol ladies on Thursday 1 June at Porthmadog GC, where each one qualified in their respective category for the GUW Medal, Silver and Bronze Challenge Bowls, the All Wales finals of which will be held at Builth Wells in August. Described as a ‘clean sweep’ by the GUW Area Organiser, Sue Jones (L/C), Martina Lahmann and Nia Williams came through in breezy conditions, which many competitors found tough going. Bangor St Deiniol now has three ladies in the National Finals.

07.08.16 St Deiniol ladies take on Caernarfon ladies, and Mother Nature!
Our intrepid Ladies team headed off to Caernarfon this afternoon for their final Shield Match of the season. Although the weather stayed dry, the wind was strong and gusty in places, with no let up for the entire 18 holes.
The course was in great condition and our team was ready to take on the team that scored a half at Bangor 2 weeks earlier.
First out was Mari, followed by Sue H, Martina, Gill and Janet. All fought the wind, some more successfully than others!
Wins were obtained by Mari and Sue but it wasn't to be St. Deiniol's day and we lost the match 3/2.
Following the match, both teams tucked into a superb Sunday roast dinner, which everyone enjoyed.
Final results will not be known for a while so we must sit tight and hope we have done enough to gain promotion to Div 3. Watch this space.

Thankfully, the weather had improved for Lady President’s Day! The strong breeze made it harder than usual and we were all glad to get back to the clubhouse for a lovely spread prepared by Siân and Paul.
04.07.16 Lady Presidents Day
Lady President provided the ladies with a lovely day. The sun shone upon us and the gusty winds from the previous day had calmed. The GUW Medal and Challenge bowls Area 1 finals were held at Conwy GC, with 4 ladies from St Deiniol entering a field of 41. A sunny but quite breezy and challenging round. Success! Sue J (net 79) and Martina (net 82) are through to the Medals final and Lorrie Murphy, who was overall first for the day with a stunning net 71 against a CSS of 76, is through to the Bronze Bowl final - all to be held at Llandrindod Wells GC on Tueday 9th August. Congratulations Lorrie - the scissors are out to your handicap. Sue H also represented St Deiniol, but it was 'not her day' this time; hey! you can't win everything all the time.23.05.2016 Competition Result
Congratulations to St Deiniol ladies for their first home win against Mold Ladies today. A great result with 3 wins and 2 halves. The weather was a perfect golfing day, brilliant warm sunshine with just a hint of a breeze to keep us from overheating (what's that?!) The Mold ladies said that despite their loss, they were really impressed with the course and of course the stunning views on every hole and that "all the stories we had heard about Bangor being well 'not so good', were totally untrue and it really was a pleasure to play". Final results were Sue H 8&6, Gill halved, Sue J 3&2, Janet halved and Chris 4&2.

18.05.16 St Deiniol Ladies v Pwllheli Ladies
Congratulations to St Deiniol Ladies on winning their first shield match of the 2016 season by beating Pwllheli ladies on their own turf.
Initial doubts about the weather were proved to be unfounded as the team arrived to see the course bathed in warm sunshine, vastly different weather from their first attempt to play Pwllheli last year. With St Deiniol's first 3 ladies giving shots to the opposition and the remaining 2 ladies playing scratch, they set off, hopeful of being able to repeat last years win.
Congratulations to Sue Hughes (3/2), Martina Lahmann (4/2), and Gill Foster (5/4) for securing the team win, but special congratulations go to Mari Roberts for her incredible hole in one on the par 3 12th!! As is customary, all the ladies enjoyed a drink on Mari!!
A great start to the season ladies, keep up the good work!!

02.02.16 Ladies AGM
Cynhaliwyd Cyfarfod Blynyddol adran y Merched nos Iau yr 28ain o Ionawr, a hefyd cynhaliwyd eu noson wobrwyo yr un pryd. Croesawodd y Capten pawb i’r cyfarfod, yn enwedig ein haelodau newydd oedd yn bresennol.
Daeth Mike Bryant yno i roi adroddiad i ni o amryw o bethau oedd yn mynd ymlaen yn y clwb, a diolchodd Sue iddo ar diwedd ei adroddiad.
Diolchodd i’r swyddogion i gyd am eu gwaith caled yn ystod y flwyddyn. I Sue Jones ein hysgrifenyddes weithgar, Mary Oliver ein trysorydd, a Sue Hughes ein ysgrifennydd handicap, ac i Janet Davies ein ysgrifennydd gemau. Heb y merched yma mi fasa’n anodd iawn cadw trefn arnom ni!
Llynedd llwyddodd y tîm gemau tarian i orffen yn ail yn y bedwaredd adran, camp dda iawn i feddwl mai dim ond blwyddyn cynt y cawsom ddyrchafiad i’r adran honno. Gan fod cyn lleied ohonom, mae’n anodd cael tîm at ei gilydd ar brydiau, felly diolch yn fawr i bawb a gyfrannodd mewn unrhyw ffordd i lwyddiant y tîm.
Un o’r prif bethau a gyflawnwyd llynedd oedd gosod cyfleusterau i’r merched ar y cwrs, adnodd gwerthfawr iawn a mae pawb yn ddiolchgar iawn i’r Slics am eu cyfraniad ariannol ac hefyd y gwaith caled o’i osod yn ei le.
Bydd y capten, eto eleni yn trefnu dyddiau i ffwrdd i chwarae golf ar y county card yn ystod yr haf, a bydd dyddiadau yn cael ei anfon at bawb cyn diwedd mis Mawrth. Gobeithio y gall pawb ymuno hefo ni o leiaf un waith.
Ar ddiwedd y cyfarfod, aeth y merched i gyd allan am bryd o fwyd a glasiad neu ddau o wîn haeddiannol!
The AGM for the Ladies Section was held on Thursday the 28th of January, and also their prize giving evening. The captain welcomed everyone to the meeting, in particular our new members who were present.
Mike Bryant came along and gave us a report on various things happening in the club at the moment. The lady captain thanked him for his time and attendance at the meeting.
The captain also thanked the officers for the ladies section, namely Sue Jones the Secretary, Mary Oliver our Treasurer, Sue Hughes our handicap Secretary, and Janet Davies our match secretary. These ladies work tirelessly behind the scenes, and we are very grateful to them.
Last year our shield match team finished second in Division four, quite an achievement to consider that we were only promoted at the end of 2014. Because we are a small Group, it’s not easy to get a team together sometimes, so thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to the success of the team last year.
Last year, we had a ladies convenience installed on the course for the first time, a very valuable asset to us ladies. And we’d like to thank the Slics in particular who contributed to and also built the shelter for us, it’s very much appreciated.
At the end of the meeting, the ladies went out for a meal and a well deserved glass of wine or two!
This year, the same as last, the captain intends to arrange away days monthly over the summer to various clubs on the county card, and will send dates for the year sometime in March, so that you can all mark them in your calendars, and hopefully join us for at least one of them over the summer.
